Drawing equally on late 60’s psychedelia, the avant pop of Bowie, Sly Stone style greasy funk and contemporary South London, Yinka Oyewole carves out his own unique musical niche, adapting funk in a similar way to The Black Keys have adapted blues. Filled with Insistent grooves, unrelenting hooks and super soulful vocals it’s music that has not has to be heard but felt.
The last few years have been very busy for Yinka. Fronting Sabatta he has played across the world - a resident at the seminal Shunt in London 2009, the same year he played the Afro Punk Festival in New York alongside Janelle Monae, Zoe Kravitz and Saul Williams. in 2010 he played Les Printemps De Nefs Festvial in Nantes, France, in 2011 he also played the Dogstar in Istanbul Turkey and the CMJ Festival in New York with Nightmare at the Shout It Out Load/ Box Of Milk Showcase. Sabatta released a self-titled album in September 2011 on I Blame the Parents Records.
Yinka has also appeared in a number of national TV ad campaigns - most notably for Argos, Kopparberg Cider, Channel 4’s Evo Music Rooms and McDonald’s National Ad Campaign (UK) - ‘One Hand Can Do Anything’ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynjC7MOCOLA
